What Does a Natural Hair Transplant Look Like?

A zoomed in shot of a man's hairline that looks natural.

An excellent hair transplant should look completely natural, and the hairline should continue to appear natural over the course of decades. Patients must be reminded that their hairline must look natural as they continue to age.  Low hairlines may look great in their 20s and 30s but may evolve into looking very unnatural in their 60s and 70s.   Most patients want low, youthful hairlines, but a trained and experienced hair transplant surgeon needs to take into consideration the age of the patient and the extent of the patient’s hair loss.  The younger a patient is and the more extensive their hair loss, the more likely it is that a knowledgeable and excellent doctor will recommend a higher and maturer hairline.

There are many advantages to a conservative, mature hairline pattern. A high hairline with temporal recessions generally achieves excellent natural-looking, life-long results.  The higher and the greater the recession, the less the amount of hair required to cover a given area.  This pattern will give greater density and a more natural appearance than a low, rounded, unnatural hairline.

An excellent hair transplant surgeon must focus on the future journey of the patient’s ever-maturing hairline.  The patient may desire the hairline of his youth, but what he really should have is a hairline that will age naturally and work with the quality & quantity of the patient’s donor hair available.   If the transplant surgery is placed too low on the forehead, having to surgically raise a hairline later in life is a time-consuming, difficult, and expensive procedure. This is an expensive financial and emotional outcome.  Approximately 50% of Dr. McAndrews’ surgeries are corrective surgeries, and every corrective surgery patient says the same thing: “I would have never wanted more hair if I knew it was going to eventually look unnatural over time.”

What does a natural hair transplant look like?  It looks so natural you never notice.  Unfortunately, you only notice the bad hair transplants. Dr. McAndrews will always give patients excellent results with realistic outcomes, based on the patient’s age and extent of their current hair loss, to always look natural.
